🛑 Course Itinerary
- Haengjusanseong Fortress
Haengjusanseong Fortress, built on Deogyangsan Peak, is renowned as the site of the Battle of Haengju, one of the three great victories of the Imjin War, where 2,300 Koreans decisively defeated approximately 30,000 Japanese forces. This battle also saw the first use of the throwing ash sacks tactic in Korean war history, with women cutting their skirts to carry and throw stones, which is said to be the origin of the Haengju chima (apron). - Haengju Seowon Site
Haengju Seowon was established in 1576 by local Confucian scholars to commemorate Jeong Mong-ju’s academic virtues and loyalty, later receiving the royal charter name ‘Chungnyeol’ in 1609 and additionally enshrining Jeong Bo and Yi Si-jik. Though abolished in 1871, the site was gradually restored from 1911, and today comprises a shrine, lecture hall, and various gates. - Lunch (Chowon Garden)
Chowon Garden is a 30-year-old eel BBQ specialist, offering grilled eel and Korean beef with the best Han River views, a 20-minute drive from Yeouido. For lunch, guests can enjoy delicious side dishes handmade by a grandmother from Gunsan, traditional eel BBQ, and premium domestic Grade 1 Korean beef. - Goyang Seoo Royal Tombs
Goyang Seoo Royal Tombs consists of five Joseon Dynasty royal tombs (Gyeongneung, Changneung, Ikneung, Myeongneung, and Hongneung), along with other significant burial sites including Soonchangwon for Crown Prince Sunhoe, Soogyeongwon for Royal Noble Consort Yeongbin Yi, and the recently relocated Daebinmyo for Jang Huibin. Its convenient location, practically within Seoul, makes it an ideal spot for leisurely walks or jogging. - Goyang Seosamneung Royal Tombs
Goyang Seosamneung Royal Tombs, Historic Site No. 200, is named for its three main royal tombs—Huireung, Hyoreung, and Yereung—located west of Seoul. These tombs house Queen Janggyeong (consort of King Jungjong), King Injong and Queen Inseong, and King Cheoljong and Queen Cheorin, along with the burial sites of three crown princes, 51 other royal family members, and a royal placenta chamber.
