Buso Mountain Fortress
Buso Mountain, a low-lying peak with a dark green forest north of Buyeo’s city center, is the first landmark visible upon arrival. As Buyeo’s guardian mountain, it houses the historically significant Buso Mountain Fortress (Historic Site No. 5), an earthen fortress deeply imbued with the history of the Baekje kingdom and its royal court.
Lunch (Gudeurae Dolsambap, Hyangwoojung)
Gudeurae Dolsambap features 20-30 kinds of rare medicinal herbs and edible flowers, all pesticide-free and contract-farmed, served with a unique ssamjang for an exceptional taste. Hyangwoojung complements this with delicious stone pot rice made from local Buyeo rice, black rice, jujube, ginkgo, and beans, accompanied by savory doenjang jjigae, cheonggukjang, homemade kimchi, and various side dishes.
Jeongnimsa Temple Site, Buyeo
Jeongnimsa Temple Site Five-story Stone Pagoda
The Jeongnimsa Temple Site was the central temple during the Baekje capital period in Buyeo (538-660). An excavated tile fragment inscribed Taepyeong 8nyeon Mujin Jeongnimsa Daejangdangcho (1028 CE) provides the most significant evidence of the temple’s reconstruction during the Goryeo dynasty.
Seodong Park and Gungnamji Pond
Gungnamji Pond, located in Seodong Park, is Korea’s first artificial pond, purportedly built by King Mu of Baekje in the 7th century as part of his southern detached palace and famed for his love with Princess Seonhwa. The Samguk Sagi records detail its construction in 634 AD, featuring water drawn from a distance, planted willow trees, and an island designed to mimic a mythical Chinese mountain, with the current pond restored in the 1960s to one-third of its original scale.
Neungsan-ri Ancient Tombs
The Neungsan-ri Ancient Tombs are a group of Baekje-era tombs situated on the mid-southern slope of Neungsan-ri Mountain in Buyeo, Chungcheongnam-do. This south-facing royal communal cemetery was strategically chosen according to geomantic principles, featuring a main mountain behind it and surrounding natural features representing the Four Symbols, with a stream flowing approximately 200m to the front.
